  • Russia expends its presence on automobile market in Southeast Asia

The Russian government announced that GAZ Group is planning to set up a joint venture in Vietnam. It will become the first assembly plant of its holding in Southeast Asia. The company intends to start production of cars in cooperation with a local partner on the territory of the industrial zone with a preferential tax and customs regime in the city of Da Nang.

According to experts, Vietnam will facilitate SKD assembly of all-wheel drive "Gazelle NEXT" models, which is already localized in Turkey. The roads of the South Asian country are of poor quality, thus, all-wheel drive vehicles are in demand, especially in the states of Indochina. Last year, GAZ Group presented their cargo line at the Vietnam Motor Show. Those were Sadko NEXT medium-duty trucks, a 19-seater minibus based on "Gazelle NEXT”, as well as their all-wheel drive options.

In 2016, the governments of Russia and Vietnam signed the agreement to support the production of cars in the Asian Socialist Republic. According to the document, Russian auto companies such as GAZ Group, KamAZ and Sollers received the right to quota duty-free import of cars and car kits to Vietnam. In addition, the Ural and Kamaz trucks produced in Russia, as well as various modifications of UAZ, are very popular in the countries of the African continent.
