  • Extended term of visa-free stay in Belorussia

The duration of visa-free stay of foreign citizens in Belorussia has been increased to 30 days provided they enter the country and then leave the state border at Minsk National Airport. The corresponding decree was signed by the President of Belorussia Alexander Lukashenko on July 24.

The document has updated the list of states who have the right to use the regimeof visa-free entry and exit. It excludes countries which Belarus has concluded bilateral agreements with to mutually abolish visas.

For visa-free entry to Belarus, foreign citizens need to have a valid passport or a substituting document for traveling abroad, money, and certificate of insurance eligible in Belorussia for the amount of not less than 10 thousand euros.

There is a mandatory additional requirement for the citizens of Vietnam, Haiti, Gambia, India, Lebanon, Namibia and Samoa. They should have a valid multiple entry visa of the EU or Schengen states in their passports with a mark of entry into their territory, as well as air tickets with confirmation of departure from Minsk National Airport within 30 days from the date of entry.

The procedure for visa-free travel through the airport does not apply to visitors arriving to Belorussia by flights from Russia, as well as to those who are flying to Russian airports, since these flights are internal, and border control is not performed.

The visa-free regime also does not apply to foreign citizens traveling to Belorussia for employment, business and education in case the duration of their stay exceeds 30 days.

The duration of visa-free stay is calculated in clear calendar days. The first day corresponds to the date of arrival, and the last day to the date of departure (regardless of the time of arrival or departure). In this case, the period of visa-free stay cannot be extended beyond the established 30 days.

Foreign citizens planning to stay in Belorussia for more than five working days will have to register with the internal affairs bodies at their place of stay in the country. When staying in hotels, hostels, recreational centers and other collective accommodation facilities, registration by the administrations of these institutions is performed automatically during check-in.

The adoption of the decree is intended to promote:

    1) the further development of Belarusian tourism industry,

    2) to ensure the availability of recreational centers and medical tourism in Belorussia,

    3) to become one of the important factors contributing to the development of the country's economy,

    4) to involve Belorussia in world economic relations, and

    5) to strengthen its position as a convenient platform for organizing international forums and sports events.

The document comes into force after its official publication.
