    Russia or Russian Federation is a Democratic Federal Republic. According to the Constitution of the Russian Federation it consists of the republics (22), territories (7), regions (46), cities of federal importance (3), autonomous regions (1), autonomous areas(4). All together 85 federation subjects.

    The population of Russia is 143 million people, the area - 17,098,246 km ². Russia is ranked the first in the world in terms of Area and the ninth largest in terms of Population.


    Official currency - Russian Ruble (average rate has varied between 29 and 38 rubles per 1 U.S.D or 26-29 per 1 SGD).


    Official language of Russian Federation is Russian.


    The Russian economy ranks as the ninth largest in the world by nominal GDP and 6 largest by purchasing power parity in 2014. Russia's extensive mineral and energy resources, the largest reserves in the world, have made it one of the largest producers of oil and natural gas globally.


    According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Russia is the most educated country in the world. In 2012 53.5% of adult Russians obtained higher education degree.
    The system of higher education combines 607 state and 358 private institutions, with an enrollment of 4.7 million people.
    The teaching staff of state universities includes 265 thousand people, of which 153 thousand people - highly qualified specialists (at least obtained PhD). Private universities employ more than 42 thousand teachers.


    At present Russia has more than 700,000 researchers, the majority (about 500,000) of whom hold Ph.D. degrees, there are also about 4,000 organizations involved in theoretical and applied research.


    Ministry of Regional Development of Russia coordinates the selection and execution of projects with participation of Investment Fund of the Russian Federation. Altogether there are 60 such projects many of which have been already completed. Several hundred projects are underway.


    International transport corridors, such as Europe – Western China, the second and the ninth International Pan-European transport corridors, Northern Sea Route, will be further developed in the coming years.
