  • The outcomes of business mission of Russian companies to the Kingdom of Thailand

    On February 20-22, 2018 in Bangkok, a comprehensive business mission of more than 60 leading Russian companies was held. It was organized by the Russian Export Center jointly with the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, in cooperation with the Embassy and Trade Mission of the Russian Federation in Thailand and the Russian Asian Business Union. In total, over 200 delegates from both countries attended the events in the framework of the business mission.


    On the first day of the mission, a meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation and the head of the Russian delegation Alexei Gruzdev with the Secretary General of the Investment Council of the Kingdom of Thailand, Duangchai Asavachintachit. Russian companies made presentations of their projects on the site of the Investment Council. A series of B2B meetings between Russian and Thai companies was also held to discuss possible cooperation on joint export projects.


    The second day of the business mission began with the meetings of Alexei Gruzdev with the Minister of Industry of Thailand Uttama Savanaynaya, the Minister of Commerce of Thailand Sontirat Sontichiravang and the Secretary General of the Eastern Economic Corridor Policy Committee Kanit Sangsubkhan.


    Then the opening of "Russia - Thailand" business forum was held at Marriott Hotel. The representatives of Thai ministries, departments and about 100 private companies of the Kingdom took part in the forum. The forum was opened by Mr. Gruzdev, and the Russian Ambassador to Thailand Kirill Barsky delivered a welcoming speech. There were presentations of investment potentials of Thailand, Siberia and the Russian Far East at the forum. The Thai representatives presented their megaproject - Eastern Economic Corridor program that is an accelerated development of the infrastructure of the region along the coast of the Gulf of Thailand.


    Anna Belyaeva, the Managing Director for International Development of the Russian Export Center, also made a presentation of the REC Group at the plenary session, explaining that last year the total amount of financial and non-financial support of the REC to the Russian-Thai projects amounted to $ 41.8 million.


    After the plenary session, Anna Belyaeva and the president of Eximbank of Thailand Pisit Serevivattana signed the memorandum of intent between the Russian Export Center and the Eximbank of Thailand.


    The second part of the Business Forum consisted of round tables on transport and logistics, energy, IT and digital technologies, medicine and biotechnology, and cooperation in the financial and banking sector.


    During the forum, Alexei Gruzdev gave a detailed interview to such TV channels as "NBT World", "TNN 24", "Thai Vision Channel", as well as to "The Nation" and "Bangkok Post" newspapers.

    On the final day of the mission, Alexei Gruzdev met with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, Somkid Chatucipitac. The meetings summed up the business mission outcomes and outlined a further action plan for cooperation.


    Moreover, Mr. Gruzdev and the Secretary General of the Investment Council of Thailand, Duangchai Asavachintachit signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation and the Investment Council of the Kingdom of Thailand.


    At the same day, Russian companies visited the enterprises of "East Economic Corridor" program, in particular, the International Airport "Utapao" and the industrial port of Laem Chabang, as well as Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency of Thailand.


    Alexei Gruzdev said that a large number of Thai companies are interested in cooperation with Russia, which means that Russia can significantly expand its presence in Thailand.
