The accumulated positive potential in Russia-Singapore relations has made it possible to further expand and intensify them in the course of the last few years in both political and economical ways. Big efforts were put in warming up Russia-Singapore relations. Here are just some accomplished steps in this direction:

    POLITICAL RELATIONS

Among the participants of the Russian-Singapore political dialogue which has gained intensity since 2009 were from the Russian Side: President Prime Minister, Chairman of the Federation Council, Deputy Prime Ministers, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Minister for Economic Development; from Singapore: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, ex-Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chock Tong, Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Finance Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Speaker of the Parliament Abdulla Tarmugi, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Justice K. The main event in the Russia-Singapore relations is a State Visit of the President of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Singapore on November 15-16, 2009. This was the first Visit to Singapore by a Russian Head of State in the history of bilateral relations. The signed Russian-Singapore Joint Statement determined the further steps to be taken to develop the whole complex of bilateral ties.

One of the major results of the State Visit was the establishment of the High Level Russia-Singapore Inter-Governmental Commission, which conducts annual meetings. The third session of the Commission took place in Singapore, September, 2012. At present the Commission is co-chaired by the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Igor I.Shuvalov and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Finance of the Republic of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

Interparliamentary and interregional relations have also noticeably progressed during the last years.

Trade and economy is the locomotive of bilateral cooperation. Along with bilateral trade, which has exceeded 4.8 billion US dollars, cooperation in investment, scientific and technological spheres has received an additional impulse.

The bilateral "Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income” and "Agreement on the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments” have entered into force in 2009 and 2011 respectfully.

The Seventh annual Russia-Singapore Business Forum was successfully held in Singapore in September of 2012. The representatives of public and private sectors of Russia, Singapore, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Asia-Pacific Region participated in the forum.
